The University of Witten/Herdecke and particularly the Chair of Digital Arts and Culture Communication is a partner of medienwerk.nrw (Chairholder Univ.-Prof. Dr. Renate Buschmann).
The Chair of Digital Arts and Culture Communication studies the development of art forms that use and critically engage with technical innovations. This segment of contemporary art is transdisciplinarily oriented and is connected to other artistic disciplines such as theatre, dance, music, film and literature. In addition to focusing on art reception and aesthetics, the chair deals with the specific problems of presentation, mediation, archiving and musealisation of this art segment and the current potentials of digital accessibility in culture and science.
The Centre Studium fundamentale, newly founded in 2020, is responsible for the Studium fundamentale, which has been a core element of the University of Witten/Herdecke since its foundation. Complementing the specialised study programs offered by the Faculties of Health and Business and Society, Studium fundamentale focuses on the arts and humanities in order to reflect on science, the lifeworld and the self.
