Thursday, May 8th, 2014, 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., followed by open discussion
Office, Hoher Wall 15, 44137 Dortmund
Organizer: Office

On May 8th, the office invited interested young media artists to a workshop “Ways through the application-jungle”. The event dealt with the formal requirements for funding applications in the field of art and culture. Under the direction of the two speakers Andre Sebastian (Kulturbüro Münsterland) and Harald Redmer (NRW Landesbüro Freie Kultur, Dortmund), the participants learned about strategies for critically questioning project proposals and putting them into words. They also learned about important criteria, which have to be considered for submitting an application. This was tested on concrete examples of the participants.

Submitting project-applications in order to be able to finance art and culture

Anyone wishing to receive financial support from the public authorities for their ideas and projects in art and culture must familiarise themselves with the variety of funding opportunities and the requirements for submitting applications. In addition to observing all formal criteria, it is also important to be able to formulate your request well and in a way that is understandable to everyone and meets the requirements. Do you know what you want? What is the statement, the concept, the “philosophy” of your project? What goals are you pursuing? The seminar provided practical tips and useful information.

The workshop series of the office was aimed at young media artists living and/or working in North Rhine-Westphalia. Especially addressed were graduates of art and design colleges in NRW. The focus was on topics such as project-management/self-organisation, legal forms in independent work and the development of concepts in words and pictures.

The workshop series drew on the wealth of experience and knowledge of the partners of and actively integrated them into the design of the series.

Speakers: Harald Redmer (NRW State Office for Free Culture, Dortmund), Andre Sebastian (Cultural Office Münsterland)

The office was funded by the Ministry for Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sports of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Office hosted by: Hartware MedienKunstVerein, Dortmund.
