Künstlerdorf Schöppingen Foundation offers artist-in-residencies to visual artists, writers, academics and composers. Stipend-holders receive the opportunity to live and work together for several months in Künstlerdorf Schöppingen. The artists’ community was founded in 1989, and transformed into a foundation in 998. The supporting bodies of the Foundation are NRW-Stiftung Natur-Heimat-Kultur, the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe, Kreis Borken, Gemeinde Schöppingen, and Förderverein der Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen e.V.
The primary task of the Foundation encompasses the awarding of stipends. For the 35 scholarships granted by the Foundation, some 1,800 applications are received annually from artists, writers, scholars and composers based in over 80 different countries. Specialized juries carry out the adjudication process, with consideration also being given to more recent art genres such as new media, mixed media, and interdisciplinary projects. Grants such as those for art-science-economy projects target innovative projects interfacing various fields. Since 1997, the Foundation has awarded many project-specific stipends in addition to the non-project-related scholarships. Projects have included work in the area of art and public, participatory projects, international cultural exchange, and further disciplines.
Arts and culture projects of the Foundation
Künstlerdorf Schöppingen Foundation also conceives and organizes its own events in the field of art and culture. The programme of events makes use of the diverse networks cultivated by Foundation stipend-holders and various cooperation partners. Focal themes are experimental artistic projects with laboratory and pioneering aspects, art-education projects and focal projects with a cultural-historical background.
