Folkwang Hochschule – ICEM

Folkwang University is the foremost university of the arts in the Ruhr Metropolis– the central place of education for music, theatre, dance, design (photography, communication design, and industrial design) and academic studies. At present, some 1,500 students from around the world are being educated at the Folkwang locations in Essen, Duisburg, Bochum and Dortmund. Since 1927, the institution has been characterized by the Folkwang idea: the notion that cross-disciplinary interaction between different forms of art leads to outstanding artistic and academic results.

Institute of Computer Music and Electronic Media (ICEM)

The Institute of Computer Music and Electronic Media (ICEM) was established at Folkwang University in 1990. The transdisciplinary ICEM emerged from the Studio for Live Electronic Music, where from 1971 onward students and tutors intensively analyzed the most diverse facets of electronic music. The addition in recent years of a sound-recording studio and a studio for audiovisual media means Folkwang can now accentuate media aspects in its production and educational activities, as well as disseminate artistic products over multi-media channels.
