Animax Multimediatheater – BEC e.V.
Animax is conceived as a forum for performative art and media-art-oriented educational work, and has been a permanent institution since 1999, The body responsible for Animax is BEC – Bonner Entwicklungswerkstatt für Computermedien, a registered association founded in 1990.
Four working divisions under one roof
Animax has integrated four working divisions under one umbrella. First, the forum is a performance venue for new productions in various areas of interactive art and for electroacoustic compositions. Second, it is a site of production for in-house inter-media dance productions staged collaboratively with renowned choreographers like S. Thiersch and V. Sander. Third, it is an educational laboratory aiming to develop new concepts for aesthetic media education for usage in schools as well as Ambient Intelligence Environments for enhanced social learning and aesthetic competence. Fourth, the forum is a research environment for the artistic deployment of motion-and-gesture notation systems in the context of dance and music performance.
Funding and awards
Animax was accredited and funded as a Worldwide Project of Expo 2000. The installation FX Factory (for children) received an Honorary Mention in the category Interactive Art of Prix Ars Electronica 2002.
