26.05.2018 - 23.09.2018 // Korpys/Löffler - Personen, Institutionen, Objekte, Sachen // Dortmund

Dortmund, HMKV im Dortmunder U

PIOS (People Institutions Objects Things) is the name of a database created in the 1970s by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA, the German FBI) as part of its counter-terrorism efforts.
Observing the periphery of events and collecting evidence from seemingly irrelevant details to identify patterns is also the methodology adopted by the internationally renowned media artists Andree Korpys (b. 1966) and Markus Löffler (b. 1963). But rather than on individuals, Korpys/Löffler apply the methods of the modern surveillance state on the secretive state organs themselves – the Federal Criminal Police Office, the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the police – laying bare their mode of functioning in precisely composed artworks.
People, Institutions, Objects, Things at HMKV comprises 11 installations and series of works by the artist duo. The exhibition is a joint project of HMKV, Kunsthalle Tübingen and Kunstverein Braunschweig.
